  • The MPMS-XL provides the exceptional sensitivity of a SQUID-based magnetometer in a full featured, user friendly analytical instrument. Basically, it integrates a precision temperature control unit (with the Continuous Low Temperature Control option CLTC), a high-field superconducting magnet and a superconductor detection system including a SQUID sensor. The software, running within Windows environment, allows full automation of all system parameters while controlling measurements and making data collection.
  • Temperature range: 1.9 K — 400 K. *
  • Magnetic field range: 0.1 Oe — 50 000 Oe. **
    The CLTC allows operating continuously at temperatures below 4.2 K for indefinite periods of time (limited to 1.5 h in the model 5S) removing time limitations for making measurements in this temperature range. Also, the temperature transitions through 4.2 K during both warming and cooling are smooth since the system does not need filling and recycling the 4He reservoir.
  • DC magnetometry (SQUID magnetometer)
    • Magnetic moment measuring capabilities:
      • Sensitivity: 10-7 emu (0 T) , 10-4 emu (5 T).
      • Maximum range: 5 emu; EDR expands the full-scale measuring capabilities to ± 300 emu.
    • Allows automatic measurements while sweeping temperature and magnetic field.
  • RSO (Reciprocating Sample Option): magnetization
    This option improves the overall sensitivity and noise rejection for DC magnetization measurements. Also allows faster measurements: up to 8x faster hysteresis cycles can be measured.
    • Magnetic moment measuring capabilities:
      • Sensitivity: 5 x 10-9 emu (0T), 2 x 10-7 (5T).
      • Maximum range: 1.25 emu; EDR option is not compatible with RSO.
    • Allows automatic measurements while sweeping temperature and magnetic field.
  • SQUID AC Susceptibility Measurement:
    Frequency range: 0.01 Hz – 1 kHz.
    Driven amplitude: 0.001 Oe – 4.1 Oe.
    Sensitivity: 10-8 emu.
  • Other available options:
  * 800 K with optional oven
** Low Field Option is not compatible with system
